What is a podcast?

Dan Bodoff of Maine Digital Press and I sat down and recorded a podcast that attempts to answer the question, “What is a Podcast?”

An excerpt: I often describe podcasts as similar to radio or audio programs that is meant for your personal digital device. They got their name from having been largely iPod based when they started, but they are not exclusive to iPods. The format of these shows range anywhere from interview style to song compilations to sound collage… It’s all over the board. The ones I pay particular attention to are ones that deal with interviews, or cover history and their length ranges from anywhere between 5 minutes and hours long. Many well known radio shows also make available their archives in podcast form. With regard to what the format can be, it is all over the place, but depending on where you’re interests are, you can find something that suits you.
