D.W. Pine, the Design Director of TIME Magazine, will be speaking this Thursday at an AIGA sponsored event. He will share what makes it onto the cover of the magazine, what doesn’t, and how and why those decisions are made. The event is at Empire. The mixer portion of the evening starts at 5:30 and the presentation begins at 6:30.
Of the event, AIGA President Arielle Walrath says:
“Pine is responsible for the shape of a cultural icon. The magazine’s red border, and its contents, frame our collective memories of people and moments in our history. I’m pleased that we will have a chance to learn from someone who is so skilled at using the power of design and image to move the public’s understanding, and to see the inside workings of the creative team that keeps up this high standard every week.”
Further, Pine is volunteering his time to be in Maine as a means of giving back to the profession. As a result, all proceeds from the event will help AIGA to reinvest in future programs, such as its design for good program and expansion and improvement upon its mentorship program.
